Impulse 120 Walk Around

Bow

Starting at the bow, you'll find a comfortable molded grip for carrying your Hoodoo with a friend, or on your own with the Bunkster Kayak Cart. When you're not paddling, a bungee cord stores the paddle on the bow, so it stays out of the way and easy to reach while you're standing, getting in, or getting out.

The first of four storage compartments is right here in the bow. The hatch is held in place by sliding latches on the left and right sides. It isn't waterproof out of the box, but inside you'll find a molded drain with a drain plug. Add the plug and an aftermarket gasket on the lid, and the front compartment becomes water resistant.

The gear tracks are a great spot for a fish finder. Mount a transducer mount on a track beside the cockpit or behind the seat.

Fin drive

In the center is the I-Drive fin drive. Two stainless steel latches secure it on either side of the mount: line up the pins, drop it in, and you're ready to pedal to your next spot with both hands free for fishing.

Shallow water? No worries. Just flutter the fins and keep moving. The I-Drive glides through skinny water, grass and structure with ease. It's a forward-driving system, so use the rudder and your paddle to maneuver in tight spots.

Seat

The seat might be the most important part of any kayak. The Impulse 120's adjustable seat has quick-dry mesh that keeps you cool all day. It rides on an integrated rail in the cockpit, so you can slide forward or aft for a comfortable reach to the drive, and it has three height settings for a better view of the water. Rod holders and cockpit storage

Four molded-in rod holders sit around the seat, angled so you can troll two rods at once or keep four rods out while you're stationary. Just behind the seat, a molded spot with a bungee holds a small Plano box. In front of the seat is a compartment for tackle and gear.

Under the seat is a dry storage compartment for your valuables. The bag insert comes out for access to the hull's interior, which is a great place to run wires for lights or a battery.

Stern

In the stern there's a large storage well with bungee cords for extra gear or a battery, plus another sealable compartment with a removable bag insert that gives you access to the hull. With a 440-pound capacity and plenty of storage, you're set for a full day on the water.

When you receive your Impulse 120

Your Impulse 120 arrives ready to go, with the rudder cables and rudder deployment lines already run. You'll just need to install the seat and the rudder. Need a visual? The Impulse 120 quickstart guide walks through setup.

Installing the seat

1. Attach the feet to the seat posts.
2. Line up the four sliding brass inserts with the feet.
3. Screw the feet into the brass inserts.
4. Tighten by hand to secure the seat in place.

To change the seat height, loosen the seat's feet, pull the seat up to one of the three height levels, and tighten the feet back down.

Installing the rudder

1. Make sure the rudder control points forward and is centered.
2. Deploy the rudder using the pre-installed rudder deploy cable.
3. Remove the rudder from the rear storage well.
4. Remove the wing nut and nylon stop nut from the rudder cables.
5. Align the rudder cable threads through the rudder attachment points.
6. Secure with the wing nuts until there's tension on the cables. Keep the rudder straight.
7. Test the rudder.
8. Once you're happy with how it works, install the nylon stop nuts to keep the wing nuts in place.

Wrap-up

The Impulse 120 is a stand-up-stable fishing platform with a quiet fin drive, plenty of room to rig, and the option to add power when you want it. However you like to get to the fish, it's ready.
