Are Hoodoo kayaks made in the USA?

Four models — the Voyager 100P, Impulse 105, Impulse 120, and Tempest 120P — are rotomolded in the United States. All five are assembled at our Missouri City, TX headquarters. The Blackfin 120P and Hero 130 Apex are manufactured overseas. 

We do source some components from overseas, but the hull, the most important piece of the kayak, is American made on those five. The “Hull Made in USA” column in the comparison table shows which is which.

What is the difference between fin drive and propeller drive pedal kayaks?

Fin drive systems use oscillating fins — a side-to-side walking motion — that are efficient and quiet in open water. Propeller drive systems use a rotating propeller powered by a cycling stroke, offering more torque in current plus instant reverse. 

Hoodoo offers both: the Impulse 120 and Impulse 105 are fin drive, the Voyager 100P, Tempest 120P, and Blackfin 120P are prop drive, and the Hero 130 Apex pairs a fin drive pedal system with a transom built for outboard motors.

Do Hoodoo pedal kayaks come with the drive system included?

Yes. Every Hoodoo pedal kayak includes the hull, pedal drive system (fin drive or propeller drive), seat, and paddle — everything you need to fish out of the box. The listed price is your all-in price, with no add-on required to get on the water. All you need is a PFD.

Can I stand up and fish in a Hoodoo fishing kayak?

Yes. Every model in the Hoodoo lineup is designed with stand-up stability. However, please keep in mind that stability on any kayak is earned not given. So, start simple and get comfortable on the water before you stand up or raise your seat.

Can I add a motor to a Hoodoo kayak?

Yes. The Impulse 120 and Impulse 105 have inserts that allow you to easily rig up a stern-mounted motor, like the Newport NK180 HD. For propeller drive models — the Voyager 100P, Tempest 120P, and Blackfin 120P — we offer a 46-Pound Trolling Motor that installs easily. The Hero 130 Apex has a transom that accepts an outboard motor or options like the Newport NT600.
